Did you know that Lummen has a poignant wartime history? On August 17, 1943, a German fighter plane downed an American B17 bomber over the municipality, scattering debris near Kanadastraat. Exactly seventy years later, on August 17, 2013, a memorial was unveiled in the parking lot of the Oosterhof to honor the six crew members who tragically lost their lives.
