Contrexéville's mineral springs were known locally for years, but only gained wider fame near the end of the 18th century. Its reputation as a spa and health resort dates from 1864, when the Société des Eaux de Contrexéville began development. Today, Nestlé Waters France bottles mineral water here under the Contrex brand.
