Érigée au XIe siècle à proximité immédiate des vestiges du mur d’Hadrien, cette puissante forteresse frontalière a été le théâtre de nombre des plus acharnés conflits de l'histoire entre l'Angleterre et l'Écosse. Aujourd'hui ouvert au public sous la tutelle de l'English Heritage, le site témoigne de neuf siècles de stratégie militaire. Détail insolite, ses antiques murailles ont abrité jusqu'en 2006 le centre administratif du *King’s Own Royal Border Regiment*, dont l'histoire est désormais immortalisée à travers un musée aménagé au cœur même du château.

Fondée au XIIe siècle comme monastère augustinien avant d'acquérir le statut épiscopal en 1133, cette église du nord-ouest de l'Angleterre se distingue comme la deuxième plus petite des anciennes cathédrales du pays. Derrière sa façade en pierre de qualité ornée de sculptures figuratives se cache un joyau architectural abritant de superbes stalles médiévales. Son élément le plus spectaculaire demeure sa gigantesque verrière orientale, considérée comme l'un des plus beaux chefs-d'œuvre du style gothique décoratif anglais.

The church is one of seven churches that make up the city and district parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Carlisle. It was built from 1891 to 1893. It is situated on the junction of Warwick Road and Warwick Square in the centre of the city.

Rickerby Park is a public open space in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, on the banks of the River Eden. The parkland is dotted with mature trees, beneath which cattle and sheep graze the sweet pasture grasses. A riverbank path follows the sweeping bends of the Eden and, by crossing the Memorial Bridge, you can complete a circular walk back to the city centre on the opposite bank.

Fait méconnu, ses murs extérieurs, ses portails et ses grilles d'origine bénéficient d'ailleurs d'une protection patrimoniale distincte et prestigieuse, soulignant la valeur historique remarquable de l'ensemble.
