Úbeda sits on the southern ridge of the Loma de Úbeda, a table-like landform between the Guadalquivir and Guadalimar river beds. In the early 16th century, extensive patronage helped build Renaissance palaces and churches that survive today. In 2003, UNESCO declared the historic centres and landmarks of Úbeda and neighbouring Baeza a World Heritage Site.
